What You Want to Know About CNC Machining

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Computer Numerical AKA CNC machining is setting up machines to perform functions in industry such as used to be done by machine operators. The computer code is followed to perform any function designated and with the tools necessary to complete the task at hand. Essentially a computerized robot is what results and most of the work is completed by this robot. Tools for machining includes lathes, spindles, milling and laser cutting machines and wire electrical discharge machines. A block of plastic or metal is cut away to create the completed part. The size of the batch depends on the particular need.

Occupations that include CNC machining would take in programmers and operators. Programmers will take a design for the desired end result and write instructions. The instructions will then be translated into numeric code. Programmers and operators then work come together to test out the code and work out any kinks. This is a very intricate process and can do a lot of damage if controls are not perfect. This highly specialized field is viewed as an excellent opportunity for future planning and education. The pay scales are competitive. Metal CNC machining pays the highest rate but all areas are competitive.
