The World has gone to Twitter, Market with it!
Thursday, March 26th, 2009
Who would have ever thought that a little program for microblogging would become the next big thing in the world of internet communication. In a time when knowing everything about everyone at every second of the day is at its highest, why not create something that will allow your to update your status where ever and when ever? I must admit, I missed the train on MySpace, jumped on facebook just because, and now I am on Twitter and seem to be an addict.
For those that do not know, twitter is a microblogging service that can be updated from anywhere, a website, a cell phone, an email client, literally anywhere. There was once a time, believe it or not, when you friends could not stalk what you were doing every minute of every day. There was no Twitter, no Facebook, no blogging, I wonder how those people survived?
It seems odd to me that twitter has taken off to the level that it has, on one hand I can see how it has its appeal to high school kids and college party goers, however it seems to have sky rocketed into the main stream with business CEO's and famous athletes and music artists using it every day. A few weeks ago Skittles put out a tweet about their website and they had over 1000% more visitors that week to their website, which had me thinking, twitter is possibly one of the best marketing tools avaliable.
Twitter can be, if used correctly, one of the best marketing tools on the internet today, simply because it has a huge following and it is free. With its many plugins and codes to place your twitter status on your website, or tweet on a blog you just found, it is not hard to realize the potential here. With one tweet you can flood the market with a link, as long as you have the correct following to do so!
Now of course marketing on twitter is not the easiest thing to do as it will take time to play the game and get people to follow you. The most important thing to do is create a large following on twitter, as well as a decent list of people you follow. We need to have as many people see the tweets as possible. The more people that see your tweets the better, as they will have the upper hand knowing what is going on.
Another important aspect of marketing with tweeter is the option to allow your blog posts to be shared via twitter, so any time anyone wants to tweet a post, they click the link and it becomes there status. This is a great tool because, if done eddectively, your link can spread through the networks of twitter accounts all over the world.
Now I know it is true that people use twitter to check in on Ashton Kutcher, Lil Wayne, and Shaq, but it is also one of the best marketing systems that can be put into place on the internet. Why not let it work for you?

thanks for the info. great article
There’s no mistaking the power of twitter. From a marketing stand point, its all about putting eyeballs in front of your advertisement. That’s why you have all these online marketers trying to get to the top of google. Simply, because they know that google is the top used search engine on the internet. It’s also why a lot people advertise on myspace. Twitter has just become another very effective place to advertise, and the more popularity twitter gains, the more effective it’ll become.
Twitter is undoubtedly a good site for networking. It’s growth has been amazing. But I must confess that I have not noticed anything extaordinary when it comes to generating traffic that converts
I am still working with it though
I started to use Twitter recently and I think it could be helpful
Twitter is a great marketing tool. the trick is to get some high profile people to follow you. if you can do that then automatically your follow count will increase. the reason being so many people who follow will be updated with your post when it is updated in the celebrity page.
I have currently darren rowse and carl ocab following me who are very famous with 50000+ followers. i do not get much traffic from twitter daily. Maybe 10-20 visits a day. i am looking for more ways to tap into the core of twitter marketing.
I’ve just joined Twitter. Everyday I get new following. I wonder how much I can get?
Twitter is an amazing website and the possibilities available are amazibng. I look forward to the future of twitter
I heard recently that Twitter has begun offering a search widget to add to small business sites. I think that was a smart strategy on their part to get everyone hooked on using it, and then add a means to earn revenue.
Your probably right that Twitter is a good marketing tool, but it also seems very time consuming and quite difficult to make a marketing strategy that works.
My friend loves twitter because of its mobile implementation. He uses it a lot for concerts and festivals–especially SXSW. He can easily update his status and friends are able to see what show he’s at and head on over to that show if they desire. I don’t know, since I don’t use twitter or any other social network but I assume people are drawn to its simplicity and to the fact that twitter seems really geared towards mobile devices; much more so than facebook.
I’ve just started my twitter experience and cannot figure out how to make people follow me.
Twitter is definitely the mark for marketing your business on. I have found that this is one of the easiest platforms to get adjusted to.
I will get abuse for this but I don’t see what the hype about Twitter is. It seems to be a massive scale marketting tool, but why do people buy so willingly into it?
I agree that twitter is a great marketing option, i will also tweet this page. Interesting post, many people love to see this!
We love Twitter! Follow us and we follow back http://twitter.com/MyNFLForums.
I was surprised at how quick twitter became so popular too. At first I didn’t get it but now I’m hooked. Of course I only care about reading people that are funny. If you’re not funny don’t bother in my opinion
Social media sites like Twitter have penetrated online marketing because of the large number of users that log in multiple times a day. I think that if used correctly, Twitter can be a pretty powerful tool for promoting a site. It’s also very convenient and can be updated quickly through a number of different ways.
Hi,
Exactly it is so true that everyone seeking twitter as a marketing tool/media these days. There so so many reasons to use twitter and one of them is simply a viral market with no through plan to market if you opt for twitter.

Twitter can be, if used correctly, one of the best marketing tools on the internet today, simply because it has a huge following and it is free.
Twitter is all about Idol worship. It is founded in our ridiculous and pathetic belief that some people are inherently more valuable than ourselves. Why should I care what some Hollywood star is doing minute to minute each day. Notice than people who follow other people’s twitters are called “followers”. Sadly, there are way too many followers on this planet.
Governors also use Twitter lol. Replying to your question how those people survived without no twitter, facebook & other social networking sites. They survived better than us lol, whenever they met their friends they made sure they spend quality time rather than quantity time. Some time off from social life helps us to recharge all our batteries again for another outing. Twitter and etc has just added another habit in our life. It’s a success and it’s a very good service for quickly letting know about the situation where ever you’re through your cellphone but don’t get addicted to it.
Yeah, twitter is no healthy-living style. If we’re al gonna be tweet addicts, we’re never going to get out of our houses anymore. I like spending time outdoors, it’s much more rewarding and refreshing.
yes i agree twitter is everywhere, it’s become so popular lots of big name celebrities start signing up… query, aside from using it as a marketing tool, how else can your site benefit from it?
I think that twitter is an obsession and has little use other then wasting time. It is possible to generate business if you have some clients as your followers but in general people wast hours with it doing nothing.
Remember you only live once, time is valuable.
Thanks for the article. Since using twitter to update the community on new blog posts, our photography studio has seen hits more than double.
Twitter is great…but remember it works own if you participate…it’s not for link building or seo…it’s for your customers to get to know you.
totally agree with adt. And I think people are beginning to understand this.
It’s why autofollow just does not work
And now twitter is suffering from overloading.. too many marketers use and abuse twittah!
It seems like microblogging is the future, facebook has created a similar app for this as well. But yeah, it does only work if you use it regularly..
We have had fantastic success using Twitter, both as a marketing tool as well as a research tool. Because you have such a large base of opinions being shared, it is easy to get a solid sample of what a lot of people think on a topic. We have discovered tons of new information and destinations just through Twitter research, and that’s before we even get into the active marketing uses of the site. It has easily become one of the best tools in our online marketing toolbox!
Twitter requires a commitment and an objective. It can work but you need to have a strategy.
Twitter and Facebook both are fastest growing social networking website today. Almost every person consider both of them. Nice info. Really appreciated. thanks
