I Achieved My Lifetime Ambition In Salmon River Rafting

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Ever since I took my first vacation with my parents to Colorado and saw the rapids surging through the Royal Gorge I have wanted to get into a raft and negotiate the rapids.  I am not afraid of the water and have always been a good swimmer so I realized that there were certain dangers inherent in the sport but I had been ready to face them for several years. As soon as I was on my own I began searching for a place to start my new hobby and finally decided to take my first excursion doing salmon river rafting.

After making my reservations I requested some vacation time and then packed my gear and boarded the plane for Alaska.  This trip had it all.  Not only would I be getting my introduction to white water rafting I would also be putting my sea kayaking skills to use in the northern waters.  We saw bear, moose, seals and more birds that I could count.  One of the biggest thrills, after the beating on the white water,  was watching the eagles feed. I did not mind the camping at the remote locations but was always ready for the nights of comfortable sleeping at the main lodge.
