How To Use Rapid Prototyping

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

When it is approaching the time to bring a new product on the market it is time to start considering the prototype for the production. This process, in the past, could be the longest part of bring a new product forward but today that is no longer the case. Today, thanks to rapid prototyping this process has been reduced in its complexity and can be accomplished in a comparatively rapid time frame. The important thing that must be decided in advance is what do you want to get as an end result.

With the new rapid prototyping processes that are available, individual and different needs can be factored in from the very beginning. It uses a computer process to generate a decision tree to help you eliminate excess steps in the process. The first part walks you through the steps necessary to identify what is important to you in the process. These can range from color through complexity and will help you speed up your final decision. The second step takes your attributes and compares them to the available rapid prototyping processes and assigns a word rating to each one. By the end of the exercise you should have an idea on which one works best for your purposes.
