Now on we can do that in our emails also. Google introduce this feature to gmail on 30th March 2009. The google's official blog has a post on this feature where i got this information [read it here]. This new feature is built by using Google's transliteration technology. It supports 5 languages now, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The settings are pretty easier. This feature is enabled by default for Indian gmail users. Or see the setting at the top right side of your gmail. You can enable it from there.
How to write emails in Indian languages
When you compose an email click the "Rich Formatting" which comes just above the text area. You will see a button with Indian language. Click the language you want to use and start writing. If you have chosen HINDI as your language, type "Dil Waale" and hit space, Goolge will transform that to hindi. see the picture below. The only problem it have is , it is only supported in Firefox and Internet Explorer, So Opera users have to wait
. {I am an Opera user}.

This is actually a pretty cool too. I like using Google to translate all sorts of webpages and things so I assume their email translator will work just as well (at least better than babblefish)
Nice sharing. Thanks.
